Brennan and Melao Crowned 2016 King and Queen

Arthur L. Johnson High School celebrated Crusader athletics and its newly crowned Homecoming King and Queen, Michael Brennan and Julia Melao, at the 2016 Homecoming Rally. The event was hosted by ALJ’s Student Council and its advisors, Marie Palma and Lisa Bukowiec, who prepared for the rally many months in advance.
The night began by celebrating the accomplishments of the ALJ fall athletes. It also was an opportunity to cheer on the Football team as they prepared to play Rahway during the Thanksgiving game. Later in the night, the homecoming court was announced.
The head speakers of the event included Juniors Amy Wysocki, Lindsey Hofschneider, and Brandon Kennedy. According to Ms. Palma, “Each of them did a tremendous job introducing the teams, the honorary nominated couples, and of course announcing the Homecoming King and Queen at the conclusion of the event!”
She continued, “The candidates for Homecoming King and Queen were among the very finest Johnson Crusaders. Our homecoming court this year consisted of men and women who truly embody a well-rounded Johnson student. They have shined in the classroom and have distinguished themselves as academic all-stars among the senior class. In addition, they have led the morning show, sports teams, and clubs. They have also managed to give their time outside the walls of Johnson through volunteerism and community service.”
The students nominated by fellow ALJ teachers and staff for Homecoming King and Queen this year included: Michael Brennan, Gina Pace, Vincent Campbell, Brett Roessle, Gianna Randazza, Ty Schafer, Julia Melao, Natalie Carnovale, Julia Sapia, Payton Wiese, Matthew Gallo, Casey Dohn, Jon Duffy, Cameron Hund, Gina Ferdinandi, Alex Hampp, Mike Cepparulo, and Jennifer Casalino.
Each couple was announced to their chosen song, and short autobiographies of the students were read.
Prior to the crowning, ALJ Principal Rick Delmonaco stated that he was honored to have the opportunity to congratulate these seniors on their accomplishments, and he was grateful for their devotion to the school and the community.
The night ended with a celebratory bonfire hosted by the Clark Fire Department.
“The accomplishments of this year’s nominees are a true testament to what homecoming means at Johnson. Homecoming is a night about coming together as a school and community to celebrate the triumphs and successes our students have achieved in the classroom, on the sports field, and as the leaders of tomorrow,” Palma stated.
