Martina's Blind Allegiance

Martina may have been duped into an endorsement by the Union County Democrat Committee. Did they tell her that she in endorsing a candidate that was just arrested and charged with domestic violence? Martina, a crusader for women's rights, is blindly endorsing the Dems based on her strong opposition to President Bush.

The incumbent Democrat candidates include a Freeholder, John Wohlrab, who is facing a domestic violence rap. Even though he had time to step down earlier, the Democrats waited until after the ballots were printed or that spot would have been left blank. Wohlrab is still on the ballot but the Democrat party said if he wins they will choose someone to take his place. The voters don't even know who they are voting for. This is a corruption of the democratic system.

Martina has endorsed this guy only because he is a Democrat. The candidate she is slighting is Pat Quattrocchi who is running as a Republican. Quattrocchi, a survivor of domestic violence herself, has been a volunteer for the battered women's shelter in Union County. She is a mother of seven, including a veteran and a child with autism. She is a remarkable woman with compassion and intelligence, but it seems being a Republican negates all that.

The Union County election became a national story not because I, a Republican candidate, got excited about meeting Navratilova but because my opponents, using the tax funded public information department of the county, pumped the story across the media.

They must have been very careful keeping their little secret of their domestic violence candidate away from her. It would be hard to imagine that she would still endorse Wohlrab even though he is on the same line as Kerry.

The beauty of the two party system is that a person can vote across party lines. I do all the time. The concept of voting for the person and not the party is lost to many voters.

Martina set back the efforts in trying to encourage people to vote responsibly. Her blind support for this local slate questions her judgement on her other choices on the ticket.

I'm afraid that Martina was taken advantage of by the Union County Democrat Committee in an attempt to discredit me. They have been trying for six months to find a chink in my armor. I think they have, it was my naivete that someone I admired for her character and pursuit for human rights could turn out to be petty and intolerant of another's opinion.

The vindictiveness of her pursuit to damage me is so over the top it is laughable. I did a search for both of our names on Google and 339 hits appeared. I don't know what point she was trying to make in Utah or Arizona but I must say it has been a tremendous boost to my exposure. I welcome the attention because it resulted in thousands of hits on my website, www.joerenna.com, where I actually discuss the issues concerning the County of Union.

With all of the serious concerns of the taxpayers, I can't believe this is what my opponents have spent their energy on.

Thank you,

Joe Renna
