Residents from Livingston and surrounding communities, including students from Spectrum360 programs, took part in the free event. Swimming, water slides, bubble play, food and refreshments gave families an opportunity to spend time together in a setting designed to be welcoming and supportive. LACD members, local volunteers, police officers, public-safety personnel and student volunteers helped make the day possible.
One family shared that it was the first time they had been able to attend a pool together. During the event, their son demonstrated that he could stay afloat and move through the water on his own—an unexpected and meaningful milestone for the family. Experiences like that illustrate the practical difference an inclusive program can make: a community activity becomes a place where families can participate together and children and adults can try something new with support nearby.
LACD will continue its free programming this fall at the Monmouth Court Community Center, 26 Monmouth Court. The weekly After-School Sports Program begins Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. A bi-monthly Arts and Crafts Program meets Mondays from 5 to 6 p.m., beginning Oct. 5, with additional dates Dec. 7, Feb. 1 and April 5. No registration is required for either program.
The committee’s annual Halloween Party is planned for Saturday, Oct. 24, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Senior Center. It will include food, beverages, arts and crafts, and dancing with a DJ; RSVPs are requested by Oct. 14 through the LACD registration link.
