The free fair will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Garwood Knights of Columbus, 37 South Ave. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and coffee and bagels will be available. More than 20 local organizations and service providers are expected to take part, giving older adults, caregivers and family members an opportunity to speak directly with people who work in health, wellness, social services and community programming.
The fair will include information on fitness and healthy aging, as well as practical support for people hoping to remain safely and independently at home. Attendees can learn about home-safety modifications, maintenance assistance and services that may make everyday life more manageable. Representatives will also share opportunities for volunteer work, senior clubs, fitness programs and other ways to stay connected.
Caregivers are an important part of the audience, too. The event will offer a place to ask questions about support networks and services that can help families navigate changing needs without having to begin with a long list of separate calls.
LifeLong Westfield is a resident-led group that works with the town’s Recreation Department and municipal agencies to help make Westfield a community where people can continue to live engaged, independent lives as they age. The organization also publishes a weekly newsletter, presents forums on issues affecting older residents and coordinates local outings.
Admission to the Senior Services Fair is free. For more information, contact LifeLong Westfield co-chair Deirdre Gelinne at 908-917-1571 or deirdregelinne@gmail.com.
