The program is open only to Livingston residents and permits bow hunting during the regular New Jersey hunting season. Participants hunt from tree stands, shooting downward toward the ground, during hours beginning one-half hour before sunrise and ending one-half hour after sunset.
Venison from the program is provided to local food banks to support soup kitchens and shelters.
The affected properties include:
- Prospect Park - East Hills Park, the area where the Dog Park is located - Northland Park - Eisenhower Parkway behind Northfield Fire Station - The area of Cornell Drive, Veer Terrace and Dougal Avenue - East Orange Water Property - Areas off Laurel Avenue
The area behind the Livingston Senior/Community Center on Hillside Avenue is also affected, but only from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening.
Residents may see participants parking on streets near designated properties. Their vehicles must display a special Vehicle Parking Permit in the front window.
The Livingston Police Department oversees public safety during the program. Participants must log in with police before entering the properties and log out when finished. They must also comply with state hunting laws enforced by the New Jersey Division of Fish and Wildlife.
