The band is directed by Chris Vitale and Gabe Batiz. Its drum majors are seniors Marisa Villere-Reidy and Benjamin Macry and junior Piper Moscowitz.
“In the competition at East Brunswick, we delivered our strongest performance of the season,” Villere-Reidy said. “This is a great show, and an even better group. I love being a part of this band and being able to see how each performer has grown throughout the season. The best part of marching band is the connections made between members, which are getting stronger with each rehearsal and competition we have.”
The Marching Blue Devils’ 2026 production, “In Shape,” features 100 student musicians and brings shapes and colors to life. Each section highlights a distinct geometric form: the triangle, circle or square. Through evolving movement, staging and vibrant colors, the performers create a visual experience that continually transforms. The show also playfully explores the many meanings of being “in shape.”
Batiz said the students’ work has been recognized at competitions, but what stands out is how they support one another. “We are incredibly proud of these students and the work they’ve put into learning and developing this year’s show,” he said. “This group has shown incredible character, and we are proud of their continued growth as performers and young people.”
The band was scheduled to compete in the NJMBDA Class State Championships on Saturday, October 24. The association is introducing a new two-weekend format this year. On the first weekend, bands compete within their classes, Class 1 through Class 4, for class titles and caption awards in music, visual and effect. Based on those results, bands then compete the following weekend for either the A-Class Championships or the Garden State Cup, which will crown the overall NJMBDA state champion.
Students interested in joining the Westfield High School Marching Band for the fall 2027 season are encouraged to attend an interest meeting in the spring. More information is available at westfieldhsbands.org.
